A Survey of Death-Related Anxiety (SODRA)
Developed by Dr. Lisa Simone Kingstone and the SODRA team
(Nijay Davy, Tiana Duran, Anthony Lechner, Julio Peinado-Pedraja, Liubou Ushakova, Jessica Ward)
About the Study
Psychological models such as Paul T. P. Wong’s Death Attitude Profile (DAP-R) have mapped general attitudes toward death—fear, avoidance, escape, and acceptance. Rather than asking how we feel about death, this survey asks what exactly we fear: nonexistence, the process of dying, separation from loved ones, loss of control, or moral reckoning. It also examines the psychological, existential, developmental, and cultural origins of these fears. By breaking death anxiety into distinct elements and tracing the origins, the survey transforms diffuse anxiety into specific fears one can confront.
